Multi-Syllable Rhymes
Type a word of two or more syllables to get rhymes that lock on more than its last sound: mentality → reality, family, fantasy.
What makes a multi land
A single rhyme matches the last stressed vowel and what follows it (night / light). A multi keeps matching further back: the vowel sounds of two or three syllables in a row line up, even when the consonants around them change. Your ear tracks vowels far more than consonants, so history and victory sound tied together although only the last syllable is spelled alike.

How to build a chain of multis
- Pick the anchor phrase that ends your strongest bar, and say it slowly to hear its vowel sounds.
- Search the last long word here and open the Multi-syllable tab. Use the syllable filter to match the length of your anchor.
- Stack, don’t just end. Place one multi at the end of the bar and echo it in the middle of the next one: that is an internal rhyme.
- Check the whole verse in the rhyme scheme analyzer, or test a single pair, including two-word phrases, in the rhyme checker.
- Need bars, not just words? The rap lyrics generator writes a verse around your topic with multis built in.
Single-syllable words can’t carry a multi on their own. For those, look at slant rhymes or pair the word with the one before it.
Questions
What is a multi-syllable rhyme?
A multi-syllable rhyme (a “multi”) matches more than one vowel sound in a row, not just the last one. “Criminal” and “subliminal” match on three syllables; “hustle” and “trouble” match on two. Rappers stack them so a bar keeps rhyming for longer.
How does this finder decide what counts as a multi?
It reads each word’s pronunciation from the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary and keeps words whose stressed vowel and final vowel sound both match yours, while the consonants between them may differ. That is why “mentality” finds “family” and “fantasy” as well as the perfect rhyme “reality”.
What is the difference between a multi and a compound rhyme?
People use the terms loosely. Usually a compound or mosaic rhyme spreads the sound across several words (“orange” / “door hinge”), while a multi-syllable rhyme can sit inside one long word. The rhyme checker on this site detects both when you type two phrases.
Why does a one-syllable word show no multi-syllable rhymes?
A one-syllable word has only one vowel sound, so there is nothing to match beyond it. Search the two- or three-word phrase that ends your bar instead, or try a longer word from the same line.
Do multis only matter in rap?
They are a signature of hip-hop, but comic verse has used them for centuries (W. S. Gilbert’s patter songs and Ogden Nash are well-known examples), and pop choruses use two-syllable feminine rhymes like “money / honey” all the time.
